Photo in a Sphere

Given my usual time constraints, I decided to combine Lain’s Scrap Happy blog challenge of the week along with Margie Romney-Aslett’s  Funday Monday LO inspiration for Stacy J’s Have More Fun class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Today is the last day to register. I can tell you it is already a load of fun!

I went to Texas Tech a couple of weeks ago when Andrew went up there to do his new student orientation. They are steeped in tradition and even transfer students must attend on site. It was a lot of fun and I took some pictures in the early morning of Po Shu Wang’s stainless steel sculpture entitled Comma. Be sure and click on the artist’s name to go read and see more about this fascinating piece.

Needless to say, taking your picture in a stainless steel sphere is like being in the carnival fun house. I was feeling fat and ugly that day and was completely forgetting that I had lost 250 lbs, after weight loss surgery, despite having gained some back. Getting back on the wagon and getting back to the weight I was feeling comfortable at is never easy, surgery or no surgery. The picture is a perfect representation of how my mind was seeing my body that day.

I cropped out “me” from the sphere photo (difficult to see the area in the LO photograph) and then started to play with it in iPhoto. Nothing major but ended up with a rather impressionistic result.

So there you have it. Pin head on large lower half with monstrous thighs and ankles. Enjoy!

Lain’s 30 Minute Thursday Challenge

I will be slaving away tomorrow so I am posting my LO tonight. This is the first one I have done for Lain’s challenge. Lisa finally convinced me to do it. We both lifted LDickinson’s LO from Simple Gallery at Simple Scrapbooks website. Continue Reading »

Nothing I like better

than seeing a guy, my age, ride up on a Harley, get his coffee and pull out a book to read.

We get sick on the way by what people say…

I just heard this line in a song playing at Starbucks. Didn’t hop up in time to get my favorite baristas to go back and see who it was. A male and female singing. I would like to hear more. Have to figure it out later on.

The line spoke to me given what has been happening in life lately.

How do we process to the place where what people say to us, especially when it is diametrically opposed to who we believe we are, does not peel skin wide open exposing our every vulnerability.

I think this challenge pops up for all who call themselves human. Are artists even more sensitive to being cut up with the jagged knife?

I can only speak for me but the attack than came from around a dark corner, taking me totally by surprise, threw me down and into the pit before I totally knew what was happening. No warning.

Today, I pull myself back up and go forward. It won’t be easy. Even more difficult will be resisting the drive to mount a counter attack. That doesn’t fit with my intellectual belief system but the viscera is ready to roll.

Save myself.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

You have no doubt going in that a book narrated by a dog will pull at the heart strings. This being especially true for those of us who see human qualities in our pups.

The book was predictable but Garth Stein’s writing pulled me in and lead me to think about some things I prefer to push to the back of my conscious thoughts. Despite my dislike of weepy behaviors, I found myself shedding more than a few tears.

I shall have to pay more attention to Ally’s behaviors. Who knows? She might be trying to tell me something important.

I was just thinking

I managed to get my last post up on the blog 3 times. I should know better than to use the back arrow to edit :).

I went into the Manage tab in Wordpress admin clicked a couple of boxes and hit delete. Poof, gone.

How I wish getting rid of mistakes in life was so quick and easy.

There will be no honking and cheering in the streets

No back to back NBA championships but we can put the asterisk by the Laker’s Western Conference championship, eh, Phil Jackson?

Not unexpected but I am sad.

Time for team rebuilding. Too many of our beloved players are getting old. There was no Big Shot Rob showing up to save the day.

They seemed almost confused as the game slipped away from them once again.

Looks like the NBA big shots may get their wish. A Boston vs LA finals. I won’t be watching. What’s the point? Watching sports, for me, is all about watching people with whom I feel some type of attachment.

The good side? I will be more rested and so will the Spurs.

Get out with the camera

I keep reading about the 100s of pictures so many scrappers are taking every month. I need to start taking mine with me. Maybe the small camera for out and about. The DSLR is cumbersome to take around all the time. Or, is that an excuse?

I will digress but who thought up some of the tats these pro basketball players have? They clearly weren’t art majors. With all that money they earn one would think they could have some one with some talent design their tats.

Ok, back to the camera issue. Need to try the every day shot thing.

The Heineken commercials are whacked. I think it would be better if it was Peace Love instead of It’s love.  It\’s Love

My Dear Beat-Up Spurs :(

I am hoping they get some R&R on yet another one day off with travel. Who makes these stupid schedules? Really can’t be good for anyone’s body, even the young bucks.

I have not given up hope!

Go Spurs Go!

I couldn’t resist posting a woo hoo since my Spurs won game 7 of the series with the Hornets.

On to LA and then the NBA finals :).
